Making your own pasta is embarrassingly easy. You're going to be really mad at past you for purchasing all of that dried, overly processed, difficult to cook pasta from the grocery store.

Think about it. How long does it take you to make pasta?

It takes me 15-20 minutes of watching the water slowly come to a boil while I scrolled through Facebook. Tack on an additional 10 minutes of me trying to maintain patiences as I periodically pull tiny pieces of pasta out of boiling water in an attempt to will my macaroni to cook faster.

It's awful. Making pasta is actually easier.

Find the Right Pasta Making Equipment

Before I purchased some real pasta making devices, making pasta was a laborious chore I tried to avoid. I hate rolled out dough.

And then I found my Kitchenaid Pasta Press on Facebook Marketplace for $75 and I haven't looked back. I am able to make several different shapes of pasta with very little work. If you find that making pasta is something you plan to do once a month of more, finding a pasta press or pasta roller can be instrumental in helping you cut down on your workload. My husband prefers his fancy Marcato 150 with its large assortment of attachments, but my $75 Pasta Press is enough for me.

What You Need:

  • 4 eggs

  • 400 gram all-purpose flour

This is based upon a simple 1 egg to 100 grams of flour ratio.

Directions:

  1. Pour flour into wide, shallow bowl and dig a well in the middle. Crack all four eggs into the well.

  2. Whisk eggs until they begin to froth. Slowly add flour from sides of well until all ingredients are combined. (You may need more or less flour depending on temperature and humidity. The dough should be tacky, but not sticky.)

  3. Kneed dough on counter until soft.

  4. Cover dough with plastic wrap (or bee's wax wrap!) and let rest for 20 minutes. (After the rest, the dough should no longer be tacky.)

  5. Process dough through pasta press or pasta roller, following the directions of the machine.

  6. Cook in boiling water for 1-2 minutes before serving—try out my homemade pasta sauce.
